A wage slave's golden hoe: Realforce R3 keyboard

I remember buying my first keyboard years ago. I wanted to get it right in one go, so without much comparing I went straight for the top name in mechanical keyboards at the time, a Filco with red switches

After all these years, my verdict on the big F comes down to eight words: big name, big reputation, but it never delivered. Scratchy keycaps, wobbly large keys, grating spring noise, occasional key chatter, a dumb Bluetooth pairing process: these problems bugged me for a long time

Recently I finally got the chance to buy a new keyboard. My approach was still to get it right in one go, so this time I skipped mechanical keyboards entirely and went straight for the king of capacitive keyboards, the Realforce R3

After trying it for a couple of days, it's really comfortable, and the feel is truly top-notch! Soft yet springy, none of the fatigue of a mechanical keyboard, and no noise. I regret not buying it sooner. Thanks for all your hard work, my left hand 🫲

If you're a programmer or a writer, it should be easy to talk yourself into buying a good keyboard; it's how you earn your living, after all (for some people, just the three keys Ctrl, C and V would do). I also think it's worth spending a bit more here and going straight for the top-tier experience. But flip it around: however good your work gear is, it's still just a pricey productivity tool. It's like the landlord's farmhand getting a golden hoe, or the mill donkey getting new horseshoes: in the end you're still slaving away for someone else. Alas~
