Buying a Switch 2 and games on Amazon
The Switch 2 came out in June 2025. At first Amazon only sold it by invitation, but since February 2026 it's been on normal sale, so you can order it directly whenever it's in stock.
Amazon and electronics stores all sell the Japanese-language, Japan-only version (日本語・国内専用): the system is Japanese only, and the Nintendo Account can only be a Japanese one. The multi-language version is sold only on Nintendo's own My Nintendo Store; it costs a bit more, can be linked to accounts from other regions, and lets you pick Chinese as the system language.
The Japan-only console can still play games in Chinese, as long as the game has its own language option; games that follow the system language will only be in Japanese. If you already have a Hong Kong or US account and a pile of games, the multi-language version saves you the hassle.
Besides regular game cards, there are now Game-Key Cards (キーカード). The card only holds the right to play the game; the content has to be downloaded to the console, and you keep the card inserted while playing. You can resell it or lend it out. If you don't want to bother swapping cards, buy the online code version (オンラインコード版) on Amazon: after ordering you get a code to redeem on the Japanese eShop. Most Switch 1 games also run on Switch 2.
